CHOOSE. COMMIT. ACHIEVE.
Valley Pathways School is an alternative high school in Palmer, Alaska. Architectural firm MCG provided design services for a new building and developed a distinctive brand identity to differentiate the school within the district.
The school's Learning Signature ("Choose. Commit. Achieve.”) articulates expectations for students, while the logo features three peaks— a nod to the three-part motto and the mountain views visible from campus.
Environmental graphics incorporate the school's fresh colors and Learning Signature throughout the building, reinforcing the community's shared commitment to excellence.
PROJECT APPROACH
To ensure alignment across multiple stakeholder groups, it was important to prioritize transparency and open communication throughout the design process:
Early Engagement: We met individually with each stakeholder group to understand their needs, wants, and overarching project goals.
Confirm Understanding: A thorough process of documentation and review ensured stakeholder priorities were accurately captured.
Collaboration: Workshop sessions brought everyone together for guided discussions, allowing stakeholders to hear directly from one another and identify areas of alignment.
Collective Solutions: Design refinements based on the collectively established priorities led to solutions that all stakeholders could take ownership and pride in.
